About Ista Weyr!

Located in an extinct volcanic caldera on the southwestern coast of the tropical Ista Island, Ista Weyr is the smallest of all Weyrs on Pern, both in size and numbers. At full strength it is home to approximately 250 fighting pairs and despite its small size, covers a diverse area including the settlements of Ista Island, the Keroon tip and the Nerat peninsula.

Ista is known for both its high, unpredictable winds and expansive, tropical grounds, making it a popular place for both training and convalescence. It is not unusual for a foreign wing to drill in Ista's skies or for individuals from all over to take advantage of Ista's lush gardens, black, diamond-sanded beaches and the open-air Sandbar located by the sea.

Those that visit will find the weather hot and humid year-round. The cuisine is fresh and spicy, rich in fruit and seafood. Generally a friendly bunch, the people of Ista are known for their open, welcoming natures, forthright words and adventurous spirits.
