Kylia's Gold Essieth
Ancient Accomplished Gold Egg
Perhaps it's a trick of the light, or perhaps it's the way the shadows play over the dark sands and the rounded eggs within; but it looks as though Omfaleth has left a piece of herself behind in the dark Istan sands. But no- for the gold of this perfectly ovoid form has striations of silver lanced through it, grey edging it with an almost otherworldly light that echoes that of ancient queens and leaders long since made memory. The darker bands that coruscate about the egg - for surely that is what it is - harken the thoughts to movements and wrinkles of dragonhide, shifting with the light like an old dragon finding comfort in the sun; and those tawny tones fade as they circle, seemingly soothed by ambient moisture. There is a sense of quiet, of honour, of recognition about this egg; as though something about it embodies those that came before. Toward the bottom, small diamond patterns barely mar the texture of the shell, nearly hidden by the sand; six in total, though one seems more faded than the rest.
Egg Inspiration: It's hard to imagine that the game has been up and running for fourteen years; and in that time a lot of people have dedicated a lot of time to making this game special for its players. Communities have formed, lasting friendships have developed, and I think all of us can call this place 'home' in some small part or some small way. This egg is dedicated to all those leaders, past and present, who put in hard work, time and effort to make it enjoyable for the rest of us. Thank you.
Hatching Message: The Ancient Accomplished Gold Egg gives one last shudder before a crack begins at those diamond-like formations near its base, snaking up through a rough patch of shell and finally breaking open to leave a faintly disoriented dragonet on the sands.
Lyrical Crimson-Chased Gold
Crafted like one of the finest instruments on Pern, this young queen is so pale a gold as to be nigh-colourless, the shade of the gleaming of light off raw, pure metal. But it's an imperfect instrument as yet; rough around the edges, clumsily shaped with feet too large for easy movement and tail too long to stay out of the way, oft caught in sharp talons or between awkward limbs. Ridges march irregularly along a sinuous neck, fair contrast to stunning, large eyes that seem ever-alert and dominate an inquisitive, playful face and trim muzzle; a hint to future beauty for all her gawky beginnings. All this, fair enough; but when she happens to fall beneath a beam of light, glory: for there that pale, iridescent hide lights brilliant fire, a hundred red and umber hues dancing, flittering, trickling along that effervescent hide and then suddenly gone, vanished to start anew on haunch or wingspar, as elusive and fleeting as memory.
Final Size: 40.2
Dragon Inspiration: Essieth is fashioned after a Harper apprentice, the sort who starts as a dirty-kneed, clumsy novice who despite her best efforts can't seem to get it right (but doesn't seem to mind so much, it's the journey that counts) and marks her path to MasterHarper and all the feelings of tact, persuasiveness and competance that go with that. She'll always have that bubble of youth and that love of anything musical.
Name: Essieth: (Ess - ee - eth or Essie-yeth) - This is African for 'A child that belongs to everyone' or loosely put, 'the community's child'. We liked this because your Essie is, really, everyone's; as Ista's newest Queen she as much the Weyr's as it is hers. We also liked the child aspect, because she truly is a child in spirit, and that aspect of fun and imagination will never leave her even when she gains experience. Finally, we fell in love with the nickname she'd have - Essie - and like how it fits her both when she's a constantly messing-up Weyrling and when she's a more worldly, savvy and powerful queen.
Mindvoice:
Internal Impression Message: Amid all the chaos of the hatching, the cries of candidates, the shouted encouragement of onlookers, you hear a very odd sound. It's nearly impossible to tell if it is music or laughter. It seems to be both at once, coming in with odd clarity despite the cacophony around you. All other sound seem quieter now and that voice, or that melody, seems to be teasing you, drawing closer and then trailing off again. Perhaps the past months have been more of a strain than you thought. Perhaps you're losing your mind. No one else seems to hear this sound, this beautiful entrancing sound. It chimes again and the hatching cavern is forgotten as you strain to hear every note, every word. There are words now, singing and laughing drawing you out of yourself, luring you farther, like a game of tag. She won't let you catch her, though. She's too quick for that. Or she was. Suddenly, before you can realize what's happening, another consciousness floods into your head, one that's rather embarrassed to be caught so abruptly. It wasn't what she was planning, but... but that's alright. Her voice fills your ears like the most wonderful sound ever heard, something strangely familiar. << I was hoping you'd find me. I was having trouble finding you. Now we will be together! Kylia and Essieth. I like the sound of that. >>
External Impression Message: The Lyrical Crimson-Chased Gold is doubting no longer. Her start may be rough, her finesse may be... er... unnnnfinessed, but this decision is true, this one is -hers-, and a musical, yearning creel sounds from her throat.
Temperament
Weyrling:
Ah, queens. They seem to be born with inner wisdom, a haughtiness and regal supremacy that goes beyond their age; a capability to do everything wonderfully the first time, an ability to command, and an innate talent for leadership.
Well, forget it. Not your Essieth.
Sometimes, rarely, there are highly creative individuals who seem to live on life as though it were a drug. These personalities are so vivid, like a flame or shooting star; often they are lost before their talent truly gets a chance to surface. And as children those living flames seem brighter still, but ill-directed; they seem to flicker in every direction. This is your Essieth. She is the Harper Apprentice who seems almost irrepressibly woodsy, always apt to go in her own direction (and rarely well) but somehow makes a go of it. She's the sort who would go searching through the underbrush in the forest for hours to find the perfect branch from which to fashion a flute, and would arrive back at the Hall late, out of breath, covered in dirt and up to her ears in trouble; but triumphant still. She has a habit of being an embarrassment at times, having no idea what is expected of her as Ista's newest queen (indeed, she seems to be oblivious to that); and she will often make suggestions that lie in concert with your own impulsive nature. You might be inspired to say, "Sure!" to these, but will have to temper your own instinct in order to teach your lifemate what path lies before the both of you. You will have to step up to the plate, being strong for you both during her formative turns. Arguments will spark, of course, and disappointments will sadden her heart when her best efforts fall flat; but she is brilliant, and she will learn, she will learn.
Adult:
As Essieth grows and experience lends its wings to her spirit, she will gradually become more like the MasterHarper she was meant to be; tactful, diligent, persuasive and charming - when she wants to be. She will have a keen sense for those about her, a keen eye for the fare of the Weyr and how to bring all that into concert. Her voice is lyrical, a symphony of tone and colour used in such a way to better enhance her message. Her early impetuousness will have tempered - though you will still hear those echoes of playful amusement and surges of delight as she whispers sly suggestions for illicit adventures (often while you are in a meeting!) -- but she will grow to understand her place, and yours, with your help and guidance. This will be a boon to you, too, for it will help you assert yourself in a way you haven't needed to before, and together working through those early arguments will bring you closer, a team in body and mind. It will be a rocky road to get there, but get there you will.
Flight:
Thank goodness Essie will have grown out of her clumsy phase by now... mostly. Otherwise who knows -how- her first flight would turn out. But no- for all her awkward days are behind her, her lean frame will have grown into svelte beauty, long, sinuous tail and large wings giving her power in the air. But it's power of the mind that will set you aback. You're used to a sister of the spirit, your soul's best friend turned draconic; and now she'll be nigh as fiery as her dam, and it might be your first glimpse of the power and willfulness of which she's capable. That first flight will take a chunk out of your self-confidence and will leave you shaken; but succeed you will, for that is why you are hers. Her scorn of the other males will be unsurpassed; and though she is not a flirt by nature, she will flirt with the males around her if only to taunt them at every turn, showing off and then rejecting them simply because she can. During flights, it's safe to say, she's truly not herself.
Wing:
This is where Essie's ability to see the bigger picture will give an advantage; for she'll have an eye on the Threadfall and a proverbial ear cocked for trouble at all times. Once she gets the hang of it, she'll have a good mind for multi-tasking; directing wings, alerting dragons to a patch they didn't notice, all the while checking in on ground crews and injured dragons. She's a fierce thing when she sets her mind to something, her impetuous yet determined nature sometimes getting the better of her when she has a goal in mind. You'll have to keep an eye on her when this happens, lest you find yourselves in deeper than you're ready to handle.
