Lorany's Blue Larileth

Raucous Swirled Redstar Egg

Like a mesmerizing marble blown by a master glass-smith, this egg is an oily swirl of oranges, reds, and creams. The flickering of glowbaskets and light leaked in from the outside combine to oddly illuminate the egg, causing it to seemingly pulsate. The illusion is made even starker when seen against the backdrop of Ista Weyr's famous black sands. The play of shadows across the egg make it seem as if the colors are curling with liquid wonder, like clouds roiling across a Jovian globe. Or, more ominously, like the sight of the Red Star as viewed by the best of the Starcraft's telescopes....

Egg Inspiration: This egg is coded in honor of the firelizards that used to go /between (and home) whenever the term "redstar" was uttered aloud. Wonderful way to clear a room full of dozens of firelizards... watch the /between spam fly! Pern didn't have +watch then, so the only way to watch rooms was with firelizards -- and you'd often have between 20 and 50 firelizards in one room, all sitting happily on pre-coded perches... -until- someone said the R_S word. Spam, anyone?

Hatching Message: The Raucous Swirled Redstar Egg gives a final shudder, rolling twice over in the sand before a foot forces its way out. All at once, a dragonet lies sprawled in the remains of reddish shell.

Anvil-Steady Tempered Ore Blue

Pale blue washes over the serene face of this bulky dragonet, circling around ever-steady eyes. Dark streaks form like rivulets in molten ore to race over prominent eyeridges, melding to a heavy, denser tone that continues down strong, bulky neck and faintly stubbed ridges. As that nebulous shade flows down ever-soft hide the light plays tricks, turning blue to tilt this way and that, lighter and darker as though mimicking dented, mid-shaped metal fresh from the Smithcraft's forge, not yet turned to splendid masterpiece. As though half-completed -- merely imagination taking splendid, lethargic form -- the blue tones suddenly deepen past hindquarters, growing heavier and more dense until it almost blackens at forked tail. Whatever Master wrought this gem seemed to have half-finished, and the blue's frame seems eager to fill out and discover the potential hidden within; but those wings surely have already reached it. Those were wrought to distinction, with translucent blue washed over powerful pinions and sparkle-bedecked sails: art in fluid motion, a Smith's pride indeed.

Final Size: 27.9

Dragon Inspiration: Larileth is inspired from the history of the Smithcraft and the archetypes that arrive from it; steadfast strength and blazing creativity.

Name: Larileth - The name Larileth is derived from a classical Greek term meaning 'Fate'. Not only did this name sound particularly suited to him, but -he- is fated to you, and that is part of what makes him so steady and strong: of course he would be, because all is as it should be; you are his, and he is yours. We also liked the variety of nicknames you could give him (though whether he would -like- being called a nickname is another matter - though he likely would put up with it with gruff, reluctant affection). Lari, 'leth, etc - we liked those as a nice juxtaposition for his serious, deliberate nature, a tease of sorts.

Mindvoice:

Internal Impression Message: The hatching sands go dark, fading through gray to black as though an absolute shadow has passed over. From somewhere behind you a light grows. Firelight. Orange tongues dart around you, trying to illuminate that endless shadow. The light begins to pulse, a dull roar pulsing along with it. With each beat the light becomes brighter and reaches farther. Flashes of the cavern become visible again, progressing with every rhythmic roar of that unseen fire as though the world was spilling out from some ethereal forge. The whole cavern is back now, though all the sound is drowned out by that heavy pulsating. The only dark spot left is directly in front of you and simultaneously you realize that pulsing is a thought that's been creeping into your head, one that's not your own, and that a blue dragonet is coming into focus before you. For a moment, it feels like the world is rushing to catch up, all the noise floods back, the movements on the sands resume and you are filled by the sensation of unwavering love and trust. It's an odd feeling, that of a warm blanket wrapping protectively around you though you knew not you were cold. << We are together Lorany. We are ready. Together we will be strong! I am Larileth... and I am hungry. >>

External Impression Message: The Anvil-Steady Tempered Ore Blue pauses, still as the stone he seems hewn from. Then stone is in motion, and with a flurry of hammered wings, he's at his chosen's feet like metal to a magnet, the lodestone of his life found.

Temperament

Weyrling:

As a weyrling, your lifemate may be a little slower catching on than some of the others. He will not stray from whatever task he is set on, but this slower, more cautious bulk of a weyrling may need to be reminded just how to accomplish said task. He may generate teasing from some of the more arrogant weyrlings because of his more deliberate mannerisms, but he will take it in stride, unflappable, allowing his broad shoulders to bear the brunt of the ridicule in order to spare that quiet, shy weyrling in the back from becoming the object of unwanted attention. He is a protector, you see; and can weather any storm in a cause he feels is just. His true power will shine through when it comes time for the weyrlings to take their first flight; those bright, powerful wings of his will be more than ready for the job and this will be one task that he needs no further instruction. He was born to fly, and flying is where his grace will show, and where he will feel the most at ease.

He will not understand some of the jokes the other weyrlings play; and while they play splash-games in the pools he -might- be enticed in, and if he does, woe to the others! Most of the time you will hear his warm, gruff tone in your head, that cushion of lovingness he favours you with, that wraps your mind within his own like a blanket in a storm. There will be wry amusement in that voice, steady and strong absoluteness that proves he watches, learns, and files it all away and simply considers their playacting unnecessary.

Adult:

He is still slow and cautious, preferring to spend extra time on a task to finish it completely, rather than speed through it and produce an unacceptable product. But boy, does he take pride in that product; in everything he does, as a matter of fact. He is very quick to stand up for someone that he feels is being wronged, but he won't become aggressive about it. He will become the big, imposing protector that simply stands in front of the one being slighted, his head held low, his shoulders once again bearing the burden of the unkind gestures. No longer will he generate much teasing on his own behalf, however. There will be many that will see his slower side as what it is, the balance to the power that makes up the muscles beneath his rich hide. All this power combined cannot, however, match the strength of the love he has for you. He may argue with you at times (in his patient and persevering way), but only if he feels that the subject is important enough to argue about, and then only long enough to come to a solution that he feels will be in the best interests of your health and well-being. That feeling comes ever-constant; a brief flash of affection during a drill, a moment's mental touch, a feeling of being wrapped in that safe warmth, a constant checking of you for any ills, mental or physical. It's not an annoyance; you'll soon grow used to those small touches, and learn to rely up on them.

Flight:

Strong and steady wins the race. Your lifemate may not be as quick-witted as some other dragons, but in flight, he can fly with the best, and he thinks ahead far enough to surprise even the canniest bronze. His powerful body will allow him a quick start, the wind filling his great wings as he chases after the one thing that may change his usual level-headed nature - a female. You may have a very difficult time keeping your bond with the world around you while he chases - his mind will be focused on one thing and you will have no choice but to follow him. Through the flight, fast twists and turns may not be his strong point, but he has a keen eye and will find a straighter path to reach his prize. He will hold out, chasing to the near point of exhaustion, constantly reaching; and those with less endurance will find themselves falling more and more behind.

Wing:

His deliberate and thoughtful mind will find an unusual liking for strategy. He will be able to visualize strategic maneuvers easily, and this will help you both avoid harm on more than one occasion. His bulk of muscle makes it hard for him to twist and turn as quickly as some of the more slender blues, but don't let his sluggishness confuse you. His keen mind is more than enough to allow him to pop in and out of between quickly and cleanly, and he'll come up with his own maneuvers that make use of his powerful strength. He will be the watchful eye as he is flaming and will be quick to help out those closest to him, lasting longer in Fall than almost any other Blue in the wing. As long as you keep feeding him that firestone, he will keep defending you and all of Pern, and his flame will not falter. In this, he finds great joy; for he loves the idea of protecting Pern itself.
