Jasia's Brown Aansoeth
Sleek Six-Fingered Sadist Egg
This egg is unsettling, though it's hard to say just why. Its overall color is a dark butter amber, with a dull sheen resembling velvet and a streak of glossy brown capping its apex. However, thin scratches of ink-black and spills of ominous, rusty red mar what might otherwise be handsome. On one side, visible only when Essieth has turned the egg just so, is a dark mark rather like the print of a most unusual hand... a hand that possesses six fingers.
Egg Inspiration: Count Rugen, the six-fingered man in The Princess Bride. Along with killing Inigo Montoya's father, he also tortured Wesley in the underground Pit of Despair.
Hatching Message: With a final swift jerk, the Sleek Six-Fingered Sadist egg rolls, hiding that eerie handprint from view and knocking the amber and rust tinted egg from it's perch atop the shallow mound. This seems to be the final straw and it splits neatly in two, the sides falling away to reveal a sleek, angular little brown. So swift is his appearance it's almost like a vision conjured from thin air, though the imperious creel he utters as soon as the air hits his hide is all too real.
Fantastical Flagstone Brown
Unmatched flagstones have been masterfully fitted to from a perfect mosaic, sun-warmed browns piled together across the hide of this angular dragon. Chunks of terracotta meet weathered brick along his shallow ribcage, a wash of ever changing reddish rock which ends at muscled legs shaded like a dirt path obscured here and there by a whirl of autumnal leaves. Delicate paws sport razor sharp talons of ebon, echoed in the sepia streaks that sweep out from the edge of each keen eye and up over sharp eyeridges. His pointed muzzle only accentuates this sleek look, a glint of teeth giving him an almost fierce appearance. The remnants of sturdy vines in winter, a duller tone of grey brown, find purchase in aged mortar and wind their gnarled way over the spars of widespread wings, surrounded by the translucent rust of the membranes themselves. Across his high back paler sandstone crumbles with age, leaving uneven neckridges to march sharply down his slender neck before disintegrating into a grainy haze over his long whiplike tail.
Final Size: 31.4
Dragon Inspiration: Aansoeth is based on Jareth, David Bowie's excellent portrayal of the Goblin King in the 1986 movie "Labyrinth". When the young girl Sarah is sick of babysitting her stepbrother Toby she wishes for the goblins to take him away. Much to her surprise the wish is granted by the dashing Goblin King. To save Toby from becoming a goblin himself she must navigate the Labyrinth, penetrate the Goblin City and face Jareth in his castle. This is a fan's website complete with pictures and interesting info.
Jareth is the King of the Goblins, handsome, charming, cunning and sly. He's fashioned from Sarah's fondest dreams and worst nightmares, and he is everything she wants and needs him to be. He is her night owl, he shows her dreams in his magic crystal ball and he can spin any illusion she wishes. He is the villain she needs to challenge her, to help her discover the heroine within and to teach her about her own courage and strength. Then again, he rules a crumbling kingdom full of stupid Goblins and he's very bored. Maybe the whole enterprise is but an indulgent amusement… one never can be quite sure.
Name: Aansoeth (an-SO-eth) - This name was taken from the Afrikaans word 'aansoek' which means 'ambition'. Your Aansoeth is certainly ambitious and we felt that the name blended will with yours, both similar and complimenting.
Mindvoice: The looming black of deepest night wraps itself elegantly around the touch of Aansoeth's mind. Out of the darkness crystal globes whirl with impossible speed and intricate patterns, bearing the images and illusions he offers up in their gleaming depths. He speaks in cultured notes delivered in a melodic tenor. A veritable symphony rises behind his words when his emotions are strong but hints of music whisper under almost all of his communications.
Internal Impression Message: There is chaos around you, hatchlings toddling, eggs snapping, the bone-stirring thrum of the dragons above. Not too far away a brown hatchling rears to his hind feet, scattering a small knot of candidates before him, revealing their pitiful cowardice. And then it's as if everything ceases to exist, dropping out from beneath you, like a bubble pricked with a pin, and instead you are enveloped in a heavy darkness. From the distance a rumble of drums and a crescendo of strings approach and then abruptly there is a presence there with you. The darkness is broken by a crystal orb cradling your own image in its depths. << Ah, there you are Jasia. I am just the thing you need, and you called for me whether you knew it or not. Never fear my dear girl, I shall make all your wishes come true. I am Aansoeth and our first order of business should be food, I think. >>
External Impression Message: With a regal nudge of his head, the Fantastical Flagstone brown makes his claim and whirling eyes meet pools of blue, angular features complimenting each other as does the similarity in his red-brown hide and her auburn hair.
Temperament
Weyrling:
Perhaps your indifference, your cynicism and your distance presented this cunning brown with a challenge and so he bonded with you to shake you free. Goodness knows he is arrogant enough to think himself up to the task. He is clearly destined to rule, and you will be his queen - two keen minds joined together with nothing so dull as restrictions to get in the way. Even more than his own ambition he seeks to fill your every wish as it comes to his attention. Be careful what you wish for though, Jasia, because while anything is possible with Aansoeth, nothing is quite what it seems. You wish that striking lad would notice you? Aansoeth is on it, his long tail swishing at just the wrong moment to leaving you sprawling in the dust. << Well he did notice you, dear one. You must learn to be more specific. >> That mischief runs as deep as his sharp wit and his silver tongue, and the trio combined is sure to give you plenty of challenges throughout weyrlinghood. Lucky for you both, he sees most weyrling lessons as a chance to learn abilities that will undoubtedly prove useful at some later date. At the same time, once he is comfortable with a certain skill he's likely to grow bored. Boredom and Aansoeth do not make a good mix, and if you want to avoid trouble you'll have to temper your own disdain for rules long enough to keep him on task. And it won't take long for him to get comfortable with most skills, either. He speeds through the awkward stage and is elegantly graceful almost from the start. When he takes to the skies he'll perform lovely loops and whorls that seem more illusion than reality, his lithe form slipping easily through the air though his endurance is not as high as some of his more heavily muscled brethren.
Adult:
Maturity often brings balance, and one can hope the same is true for you, if not your dragon. Though his mischief making tendencies will grow somewhat easier to predict and control, he will always be impulsive, and if he thinks a prank will not incur your wrath he's likely to play it no matter his age. His ambition is heightened rather than dulled, and your desire to remain carefree and careless is the only wish of yours he's likely to blow right past without consideration. You can be as flippant as you want when it comes to love (or lust) - he is the only true love for you after all, and unless he sees a friendship as something to help you attain status he could care less whether you toss them aside or not. When it comes to business though, his mind is focused and he expects yours to be too. Those hapless dragons are clearly not as competent as he. << That clumsy blue there, he should be but a minion, laughing at my humor on cue and doing my bidding. Well… at least he should be following my lead in formation. >> For when you pierce through his brash words it's clear he really does know the way of things. Nevertheless, if any are willing he's likely to surround himself with admirers and you'll probably never lack for hands to help bathe or oil him. He collects weyrbrats and easily awed visitors like Typsyth gathers shiny things, happiest when he has a whole string of admirers you can call on.
Flight:
Clearly he is superior to most, at least in his own mind, and he is not afraid to chase any female who catches his fancy. He's likely to rise for the chase a bit earlier than others and, regardless of losses, his cocky assurance will never wane. He's a charmer from the moment he gets the hint that a green might be near to glowing, spinning elaborate illusions for her, filling her mind with visions and dreams. When it's time to spring aloft he's shameless; if distracting the other suitors will serve him, he won't hesitate. If slowing down, or dipping this way a bit may set an obstacle for that clever blue, Aansoeth will have few qualms about doing what it takes. The end will often justify the means and though he'd never intentionally hurt another, he won't hesitate to employ harmless diversions to win his prize.
Wing:
Some bemoan the lack of Thread and though there is a faint longing to fight the ancient enemy, Aansoeth sees the interval as convenient timing. Even with sweeps and drills still in place, the lack of Fall gives you plenty of time to plan and scheme, and that's all for the best to Annsoeth's way of thinking. He grows easily bored with repetition though, and that's likely to give his clever mind too much time to spin fantasies and come up with pitfalls for others. If you scold him he's likely to assert that without villains there are no heroes. << They will grow stronger for the challenge I set, just as you do, my dearheart. >> Really, it's more for their own benefit than his entertainment… you do believe him don't you? In spite of these amusements he does hone his own talents to a razor sharp edge and performs his tasks with swift efficiency, the better to get back to more enjoyable things. His ambition, abilities and natural charm, paired with your intelligence and frank skill for assessment, may someday present you with the opportunity for leadership. If that happens he's likely to demand even more of those who follow him; don't let him catch a rider in his wing amusing themselves as he once did. His creativity comes in handy as he thinks of new and different ways to spur his wing to greater heights, since what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and an interesting quest is so much more fun than a dull drill in the end, don't you think?
