Ishalla's Brown Osrath

Incomparable Coal Egg

The tireless glory of the effulgent sun, held captive for millions of turns in such a brittle prison that once was the finest gloss of green. That such an ancient treasure of noble forest trees could drink the light, could hold the sun and save the fight of flames until some distant soul could free the spark, is quite a feat and it's all reflected here in the shell of this dragon-laid egg. The egg itself is hued as just matte black dust, such incomparable power and in so humble a looking configuration. Just fragile rock. Just coal.

Egg Inspiration: Coal, such a simple looking substance, and yet it took so long to form and is actually quite amazing.

Hatching Message: A sudden disturbance causes the sand around Incomparable Coal Egg to swirl upwards in a smoky vortex of gray and black, momentarily causing the egg to disappear from view. The sound of an explosive shattering of shell is heard shortly thereafter, marking the only hint of what's happening beneath this veil of darkness. Tension fills the air as the midnight cloud begins to slowly descend, parting in the middle, like an ebony cloak opening to reveal its wearer… Eternal Shadows Brown Hatchling.

Eternal Shadows Brown

Night has fallen over sand and stone, darkness claiming this young dragon's powerful frame in almost unnerving totality. He is as a beast amongst ruins; no mortal hand has touched this place, wind-blown sand of inky sepia nearly as dark as Ista's own soil cast liberally from head to ever-flicking tailtip. That whispered dusk seems to lurk most on his ridges, a shade bordering on ebony cloaking his back to trail lightly over his ribcage. Though he is larger than most of his brown brethren, his wings are larger still, vast spans of smoke and shadow. His face, though, is touched with light: dust spirals in subtle, attractive patterns over distinguished muzzle and defined headknobs. Though they approach, those specks of light dare not touch his eyes, as though staved off by the intensity they hold. His stomach and chest are a study in contrasts, lightless grains encroaching unwelcomed into whorls of cold earth-toned marble that swaths legs and muscled flanks. No hue is quite vibrant except in the brightest sun, all cast under a pall of shadow's gloom, a world shrouded in endless night.

Dragon Inspiration: Osrath is based on the character Angel, from the television series, "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer". Angel is all things darkness, and yet he is a prophesied hero. As a vampire, he should have been Buffy's enemy, but true love really does conquer all and eventually a romance between these two unlikely people blossomed. Though he cannot help his nature, Angel's way of repentance for all of his evil deeds was to start doing good, and his love for a human woman only increased that desire to redeem himself. Intelligent, thoughtful and thought provoking, he lives in the shadows of those around him, but they are always aware of his presence. He is an anti-hero that exudes the personal kind of charisma and strength that cannot be denied.

Name: Osrath (OSS-rath) - Osrath comes from nosferatu, another word from vampire that stems from the Slavonic nosfuru-atu. We liked that it was a strong, dark name with a hint of elegance.

Mindvoice: Osrath's voice is overlaid with dark tones, an unassuming baritone on its own but constantly accompanied by smoke; smoldering incense ushers in his mental touch. Everyday conversations are outlined by the wavering flicker of candle flame and dancing shadows. When excited, those gentle flames spark and flare releasing a cloud of billowing smoke that can obscure what he wants to hide or disperse from what he chooses to reveal. And fear Osrath's speech when angry for then a raging blaze will be unleashed.

Internal Impression Message: Light fades to dark, the air becomes oppressive and exhilarating at the same time and in your mind you hear << Come to me, for you are mine >>. The hairs on the back of your neck rise, the smoothness of your flesh gives way to bumps of anticipation, your body shivering as that voice sounds out in your head again << Come to me, for you are mine >>. You cannot help but be drawn to the voice, its hypnotic tones beckoning longingly to you and you are guided by forces you cannot comprehend << Come to me, for you are mine >>. The voice fills you, completes you, as no other will ever do and your eyes fall onto the dragonet at your feet -- had you really moved? << Yes my love, we came together and you are mine, and I am yours. I am Osrath. >>

External Impression Message: There is no mistaking the candidate the Eternal Shadows Brown is heading for as he heads unswervingly towards the intense, auburn haired, brown eyed woman. He exudes confidence, rare in one that is newly hatched, but then, he has always known who he was meant for and who is meant for him.

Temperament

Weyrling:

This confident fellow has no need for the histrionics that normally come with youth. Indeed, Osrath innately has qualities that many dragons of an older age might wish to possess. While he grapples with his rapidly growing and changing form, he shows patience, not only with himself, but with you as well, as you adjust to him and your new lives together. Now on rare occasions, this estimable show of control disappears, showcasing his true age and a raging beast within, especially when you are in some sort of turmoil or perceived danger. He can be cautious when circumspection is needed, yet is always willing to throw that same caution to the wind in an effort to support you or his clutchmates. While his intelligence might mark him someday as a leader, for now he is content to move in the shadows of his fellow dragons, being their steady base, always providing a solid mainstay for them and you to depend on in any situation that arises. His love for and belief in you and what the two of you can accomplish never quavers, his faithfulness in both of your abilities is unquestioned, and his pride in being *your* lifemate is unequalled.

Adult:

Osrath has not changed much from the days of his youth, but would you really want him to be any different? He still prefers to stay in the background, living with such self assurance that there is no need for him to shine in the bright sun. As he matures, this reaches past the figurative and into the literal -- where many dragons love to stretch out on the warm sand and sunbathe he rarely indulges that way. No, Osrath prefers the cool protection of the shade, sidling up to cool stone and slinking into the cover of the trees whenever he can. When called on to stand forth, he does so reluctantly, not because of any fear he might have of doing so, but because he knows that you like living in the shadows just as much as he does. Having said that, there are times when he takes it upon himself to act, if there's a friend in need or a foe that needs to be vanquished nothing can stop him from swooping in to try to save the day. He handles responsibility well; the intelligence of his youth has increased tenfold and can now be coupled with the wisdom of experience, a heady combination indeed. He is always in control but never controlling, and he continues to exude that pillar of strength attitude and the undeniable charisma that drew you to him on his hatching day.

Flight:

His pursuit and chase of a lover would begin subtly; his mindvoice reaching out to the object of his affection. << Come to me, my heart...feel my hunger, my need for you >> is said in an enticingly deep baritone, the smoky tones of desire settling over his every projected thought. There isn't any need for him to show off his formidable flying skills, instead, he uses powerfully enigmatic overtures of interest -- an exquisite twisting of his lithe neck here, the suggestively graceful swaying of his body there. He prefers to capture his lady with mind and soul, using his cunning and guile to win the gold or green in question. His own almost irresistible aura, the way he radiates strength and intelligence, is usually more than enough to sway the female of his passionate pursuit.

Wing:

This dragon's impressive natural abilities would make him seem like a perfect choice to lead a wing, but he's more inclined to be the supporting hero rather than the main one. This shows itself in his willingness to take a step back in order to help push a wingmate forward, his eyes always on the lookout for someone who needs a bit of encouragement. Perhaps this instinctive seeking of the underdog is why he so enjoys sweeps, even in areas that you might consider dull. Never one to just glide along languidly with his mind drifting, he scans the ground intently looking for anyone who may need assistance. His other worldly combination of intelligence, stamina, and that unfailing knack of being in just the right place at the right time make him almost the ideal fighting dragon. Thankfully he's not one to rest on his laurels; he graciously accepts praise when it comes his way, then fades back into the mist from which he seemingly came. He'll just do what he does best, fighting the good fight whether that means flying ordinary sweeps and drills or preparing for the return of thread.
