Jillah's Brown Qensith

Members Only Egg

Devious markings delineate a seeming doorway in the shell of lurid dread-gray stone and watermarked metal, vending a slim outline of light that entices only the deliberate witness to peek around to the far side of the large, slim egg. Here, the indistinct colors brighten to explicit flashes of color, detailing a hidden society of hues: sensational red flashes in a suggestive pattern off a moody aquamarine, and specks of gaudy silver and gold serve to accentuate its richness with a definite bling. The salacious throng of color, reminiscent of revelry at the height of its debauchery, is only accessible to the most tenacious of investigators.

Egg Inspiration: The underground club scene is something that has a very bipolar audience; you either are a part, or you aren't. Hence the 'Members Only' name, the Inspiration for this egg is the often shabbily-fronted hideaway that secrets a world of outrageous and no-holds-barred partying and fun.

Hatching Message: The Member's Only Egg sways in long slow motions, rocking to the rhythm of its inmate. Finally it sways too far, tipping past its center of balance and tumbling down from its cozy little mound. End over end it rolls across the sand, caught in its own momentum, chunks and shards of shell breaking away along the journey. Finally there is nothing but a brown hatchling sitting in an uncomfortable jumble of limbs and wings, sand sticking all over him.

Blithe Arboreal Brown

Umber striates the dark brown hide of this dragon like roots stretching through soft soil. The understated variation of hue between walnut and mahogany, thickly brindled along his shoulders and haunches, meanders towards the dark shadows of his belly. His head is broad with a small blunt snout and wide-set eyes that are large and rounded, proclaiming innocence without guile. Neckridges march in a neat row, almost tawny as if permanently sun-scorched. His wide pinions are mottled with an array of subtle earthen colors like drying leaves on a forest floor where the sunlight comes streaming, dappled, through the canopy. His wingspars have the thin grace of branches in a breeze. As if caught in perpetual youth, his build is lean and lanky, but sculpted. There is nothing burly or brawny about him, just quick sinew and tendons. Long limbs have an easy energy, giving his demeanor a ready, eager quality.

Final Size: 33.6

Dragon Inspiration: "James Matthew Barrie (1860-1937) earned the reputation of a fine playwright and Peter Pan was first performed on stage in 1904. In 1911 Barrie turned this story into a book, which was originally entitled Peter and Wendy." (from amazon.com)

Far off in the Neverland, the Lost Boys live in a hollow cavern beneath the Never trees. Your Qensith is based on this place and these little rapscallions, with their minds for mischief and fun. Just like these boys, Qensith is incomplete without a leader and you are his Peter and his Wendy all rolled into one. You are the champion and you are the caregiver. You are his friend in mischief and his quiet voice of wisdom. And in return he is your home base, the comfort to which you can always return.

Name: Qensith (KEN-sith) - This name is inspired by Kensington Park, which is alledgedly where Barrie met the family who inspired Peter Pan and is also mentioned as the place Peter lived before Tinkerbell took him to Neverland.

Mindvoice: There is a timbre of timber in his voice, the solid feel of wood and earth, enveloped in a sense of safety and confidence mixed with all the energy of youth. His tenor is organic, not the carefully crafted and polished forms of masters, but raw and untouched, natural as earth and growing thing, without pretense.

Internal Impression Message: The sounds of the cavern, the cries and cheers, they all fade out, growing muffled as if you were hearing them through walls of earth and wood. A sinking sensation starts at the top of your head and travels down your spine, a feeling as though you were slowly but surely dropping through the sand to some secret place though your feet haven't moved. Everything grows dark and hidden and then, << I found you. >> There is a sense of amusement, of triumph. << I found you, >> he says again. It is a male voice speaking in your head. Not speaking. It is almost as though the voice -is- you, some part of you, a stray thought of your own but not your own. << Jillah, I'm here. I'm Qensith. >> He pleads for your attention, lifting you from that muffled darkness. The sands, the sounds, it all comes flooding back.

External Impression Message: The Blithe Arboreal Brown Hatchling turns his head up, watching the ledges with curious eyes as he comes to a stop before a tall young woman with dark hair and haze eyes. All of a sudden he notices her and then with a squawky little bugle he -notices- her.

Temperament

Weyrling:

What a fabulous game life is! Let's play! Qensith seems to have endless energy and is always ready for whatever fun can be had. From the moment he hatches his view of the world is utterly carefree. Everything is an adventure, or at least it should be. As a weyrling he's proud of each accomplishment and will love for you to watch him practice his pre-flight hops and mighty wing stretches. << Jillah! Look what I can do! >> You will be foremost in his mind, a game is hardly as much fun unless you're with him in it and any tales you regale him with will be nearly as much fun as the doing itself. He takes a particular pleasure in listening to stories, particularly when you've settled in for the night. He's unusually imaginative and even mundane things can become an amusement. You might find that a bit of oiling will have him plotting. << Today I am a runner and you are my groom. >> He's not bogged down by disdain for lesser creatures; his confidence is complete. As long as it is just pretend, he's delighted. Lessons are treated with the same eager attitude, a challenge or puzzle to be met and triumph over. Lectures on the other hand, send his mind wandering and when the action is low you might need to do some creative thinking to get him focused again.

Adult:

As he gets older his childlike abandon may temper slightly, reality inevitably gaining some hold in his mind, but the lust for amusement and adventure will continue. He may sometimes seem utterly fearless, but you will learn that his fearlessness stems from his confidence in you, in both of you, actually. As far as he is concerned, together you are unstoppable. He will be quick to lure you into an adventure with no heed for rules. You may find yourself tempering him at times if things get out of hand. And you thought -you- were the wild one! He can easily be a partner in crime - he's certainly ready for any scheme you can dream up. But he's not infallible and when things go awry he will always expect you to rescue him. Jillah will bail him out, of that he's certain. On the flipside, he will revel in being your rescuer, swooping in like a knight to save the damsel if ever you should need it. Ha ha! How clever of him! At times when he cannot help, he will buoy you with his assurance and hold you up with his unflagging belief in you. In many ways, he will try to emulate you, and when push comes to shove he will always follow your lead. You are the greatest thing in his life and pleasing you is his greatest reward.

Flight:

Flights will likely seem like a fabulous game of tag to him and he'll probably have the urge to join in the chase before he's even old enough for his instinct to drive him. When the time does come that the true urge takes him, it will likely give him quite a surprise. You will probably find that your rarely ruffled lifemate is downright troubled by his sudden overwhelming need. In chase he puts all his playful acrobatics to work. He is quick for his size, nimble in the air. Just as the instinctive urge may surprise him, so will the details of catching and his first few wins will likely find him a bit addled afterwards. In loss he will need no consoling; it was all just a game after all.

Wing:

Unlike many duty-bound, responsible dragons, Qensith is more likely to make is excuses when it comes to work. If only Thread still fell he would have his enemy to battle but without it all he can do is pretend. Drills become a toss of the die. He's just as likely to find them mundane one day, getting in the way of other fancies, as he is to rise to some imaginary challenge, dodging imaginary clumps, bugling as he triumphs over his imaginary foes. Sweeps are much the same way: some days they will be a chore, others a chance for adventure. Of course if nothing happens, that will be disappointing, but he'd happily spend those flying hours cooking up a tale with you and by the time you return to the Weyr he'll believe it to all be true. On those days where his duties seem too ordinary and routine it will be your job to inspire him and cajole him into doing what needs to be done. Unlike some other dragons, he has no desire to be a leader in any way, he's much more content to have someone else deal with all the responsible things. Should you ever be in position of authority his playful tendencies may actually end up stirring some trouble, encouraging you to throw off your duties for some fun.
