G'tive's Brown Cansoth

Radiant Energy Egg

Near the back of the clutch sits a more round than oval orb, though an imperfect one. But lest its location leave it lost in the backdrop, the shell blazes with fire-born brightness in a bold incineration of molten oranges and gaseous yellows dotted by small darker spots. Through the hot haze hatching sands heat, the surely-solid surface of the ovoid seems to bustle with the activity of shifting patterns and almost too-bright hues.

Egg Inspiration: "Why Does the Sun Shine" by They Might Be Giants

The sun is a mass of incandescent gas
A gigantic nuclear furnace
Where hydrogen is built into helium
At a temperature of millions of degrees
Yo, ho, it's hot, the sun is not
A place where we could live
But here on Earth there'd be no life
Without the light it gives

Hatching Message: The Radiant Energy Egg goes quite still, all attempts to emerge apparently ceasing. Then darkness gives way to light, as a head and two whirling red eyes pop straight through the top, leaving the body still encased. After a moment's struggle, the egg rolls forward and shatters, depositing a hatchling, still shining with egg-goop, on the sands.

Debonair Bourbon Brown

Evening's sparkle touches this brown like the gleam of twilight on smooth bourbon. His hide is rich amber velvet over the lanky, fluid line of his long neck and gently sloped shoulders. Warm ale-hues pool and trickle about his neckridges, washing down his lean back and spreading in lazy rivulets about his winspars. Waterspots create a subtle dappling along his transluscent sails, toned barely lighter than the evening shadows that play there. Whiskey cascades along his back, pouring over his flanks and down the length of his tail. Midnight's utter black shines on his talons, adorning wide paws like dark jewels. His head is broad, in divergence from his lean build, and accented by his straight, prominent muzzle and the continued line of headknobs touched with moonshine.

Final Size: 34.6

Dragon Inspiration: Dean Martin was a performer and entertainer in every sense of these words. He flourished on any stage, whether it was his music, his acting, or his humor that he was displaying at the time. Either paired with a fellow comedian or going it on his own, he delighted crowds with his flamboyant style, ready wit, and lighthearted approach to everything. A member of both the original Rat Pack centered around Humphrey Bogart and the later, more famous one of Frank Sinatra, Martin rubbed elbows and clinked martini glasses with the best.

Name: Cansoth is from the word 'canzone,' Italian for 'song.' The word is big and round, almost operatic, a basso line in syllables - a perfect fit to Martin's broad capacity for music and variety.

Mindvoice: Cansoth has a rich, deeper, but subtle mindvoice that seems to hold a multitude of overlapping tones at once. He can modulate it extensively, and often does so, ranging from a toneless deadpan for delivery of certain punch lines, to a riotous confusion of all kinds of sounds, colors, and even tastes when pandemonium is called for. His most typical phrasing, though, is primarily brightness and clarity. Theres something of spirits in it perhaps, even that scent and taste when hes at his loudest. Bright and bubbly champagne comes with his excitement and smooth, amber bourbon is ready when its time to soothe.

Internal Impression Message: A tickle of a thought pushes at your consciousness, trying to wriggle its way into your very being. After some struggle, and a brief moment when it seems that the thought will just go its own way after all, it succeeds in a blinding flash of light and a roaring thunder of sound. When your vision clears and your ears cease their ringing, another self exists within you, inextricably linked. << You are G'tive. >> You and he realize this together, as one. << I am Cansoth. Our time is *now*. >> There is a beat for that thought to settle, and then immense hunger washes over you. << Feed me? >>

External Impression Message: The Debonair Bourbon Brown should be a piteous wreck of a thing, after all he's been through on the sands. However, he still burbles along quite happily, tail swishing along behind him and wings bouncing in time to his step. The young dragon burbles right up to a rather tall white thing who has white on top, as well. There he plops himself down, broad muzzle pointed straight at the young man's nose.

Temperament

Weyrling:
Your Cansoth will certainly make your weyrlinghood interesting. He'll be the class clown, always eager for attention and never afraid of a little pandemonium. Nor is he afraid of recruiting partners in crime. Anyone willing to do a double act will always be encouraged. Both you and he will have to learn very quickly when such clowning is appropriate, or risk repeated rebukes from the weyrlingmaster team.

Cansoth's penchant for humorous exhibitions will be multiplied by the fact that he's a clumsy one, often tripping over his own feet, or getting his wings caught up in things, or knocking over the occasional oil vat with his tail. His recoveries from these mishaps will be immediate, though, and accompanied by mental laughter. << Wasn't that great? Look at how many people are snickering! >> Oh, yes, this one loves the spotlight.

He is also quick to try absolutely anything, and will be both precocious in lessons and a handful outside of them. You'll really want to be on the lookout when you take him for a swim, as water is the perfect medium for him to cause mayhem.

Clowning is not all there is to this young dragon, however. In spite of his love of attention, you'll find that he doesn't care all that much about how others perceive him. With or without an audience, he's the same dragon, and he enjoys entertaining you a whole lot more than anyone else. He'll do what he wants to do, regardless of whether it'll impress those around him or not. You'll also find him encouraging you to do likewise. << Why do you care what they think? Just be yourself. I *like* you. >>

He's one who enjoys listening in on many of your thoughts, and commenting occasionally. If, after a day of the intense pressures of weyrlinghood, you imagine yourself relaxing on the beach -- << Why not? Let's go. >> On the other hand, if during an exercise you come up with an unusual or risky approach to something, even if it's only a momentary thought that you'd never linger on, he may push that too. << Hey, that's brilliant. Let's try it! >>

Adult:
Once he's grown into his own, both physically and otherwise, Cansoth is a lot less clumsy and a lot more suave. That's not to say he's given up on his particular physical form of comedy; quite the opposite. He's still extremely tactile and active, never one to sit back and let the world happen to him--no, it's /he/ who happens to /it/.

Attention will never cease to have an attraction for him, and he still loves the spotlight. Cansoth will even try to push you into it when he can, continuing his insistence that you always live on the edge of your thoughts, doing the things you would normally only dare to give a moment's passing consideration. There's still the complete disregard for the reactions of the outside world; it's just you and him. What's more, though he adores you, even your opinions and emotions have to be fairly strong to register with him. He has his own, individual, responses to the world, and he'll give them to you quite bluntly, if drolly.

In his relationships with other dragons, Cansoth mixes a brash brand of cocky confidence with the other guys and smooth forwardness for the females. He has a quick and ready wit, and he's not at all subtle with his humor or his opinions. His brightest talent is his ability to always be amicable and breezy in the face of almost anything. It's tough to imagine that anyone will really think ill of Cansoth, but if they do, it won't bother him much.

Flight:
Before, during, and after a flight Cansoth will be a shameless flirt, never shy about laying it on thick. If a little goes a long way, just imagine how far a lot can go! Flattery comes easily for him, as do not-so-subtle double entrendres anything to woo an attractive green or gold to his side. He rarely forms any kinds of lasting attachments to the females he catches. He lavishly adores whoever has hes with at the moment, but its only a matter of time before he moves on to some over conquest. Its really the thrill of the chase that delights him best of all. Should he lose, his recovery is unusually quick. Hes always adept at brushing off failure with I meant to do that ease. And after all, there's a world full of lovely, lovely ladies out there; how could he deny the rest his charming company?

It seems he really just enjoys being outrageously flirtatious and funny by turns, and takes pleasure in each individual brief relationship for its own sake. One female's as good as the next, so those looking to monopolize his attention will be sorely disappointed.

Wing:
Whether he ends up in a leadership position in his wing or not, Cansoth is a natural leader. His unbounded confidence in himself will spill over to his wingmates; he'll know absolutely that they're excellent fliers and good dragons. Encouragement is second nature to him, and he'll dish out plenty of it, sometimes coupled with a friendly jab thats just to make sure that no ones taking themselves too seriously.

Ever laid-back, but ever active, Cansoth is likely to be late for drills or sweeps unless you make a point of punctuality. When he gets there, though, he'll dive right in and give it his all with rather surprising aplomb. If you don't jump in too, ready to go, you'll be getting your own friendly jabs, pushing you to do the best you can. Why? << Why not? >>

In flight Cansoth is, for those who have seen him bumble about as a weyrling, unexpectedly good. Perhaps it's because he's so willing to try anything, perhaps because he's had plenty of practice with all kinds of physical humor, but he's at home both with maneuverability and straightforward flying.
