Kamia's Green Naurimeth

From the Rafters Egg

A band of latticed darkness wraps around this egg, the glows of the cavern shining on it giving the illusion of bright lights hanging below it. Staring too long at the surface may give one a sense of vertigo; shadows and shapes meld together and take form, giving a sense of depth as though yards lay beneath the dark band. A sea of dots that could be faces stretch out and disappear under the sands that nestle the egg and a stage takes the center, it's glossy wood floor waiting for the cast emerge.

Egg Inspiration: Inspired by the view from the catwalk.

Hatching Message: Rocking, rocking, rocking, poor In the Rafters Egg still can't seem to get the hang of this 'birth' thing. It lies still again, resting, perhaps. Just when one might suspect it had given up on life, its shell bursts with a startling *SNAP* sound, shattering into a million fragments. With a startled squawk, the Headstrong Stone-Wrought Green Dragonet is spilled out onto the dark Istan sands, breathing her first breath of life.

Headstrong Stone-Wrought Green

She’s like a gemstone, this robust young green, chiseled rough from the earth by willpower alone. Her deep malachite color grows darker down solid legs, nearing black at trim, blunt talons. Marbling of beryl cracks like the veins in granite down her sides, angling across her haunches and spreading throughout her broad, opaque wingsails. Her head is long, her eyes wide-set, but her muzzle is tapered, delicate and feminine. Her slender neck slopes into graceful shoulders, where sinew lends her body a potent hardiness that is softened by a shapely tail. Not as delicate as some, she’s got more strength than grace in a form sculpted by well-defined muscle. She may not be the biggest green, but she promises to be powerful.

Final Size: 23.5

Dragon Inspiration: Naurimeth is inspired by the character Maureen from the musical Rent. She's a vivacious, fearless young woman who stands up for what she believes in, in a big way! She's a rebel, and believes that she can change the world. She's a free spirit, a champion of ideals and a lover of art, and through the course of the production, she comes to realize that her friends are just as important as her cause.

Name: Naurimeth - Naurimeth is a play on the name Maureen. With a little reorganization, we hoped to find a name that was lyrically feminine while still retaining a sense of willfullness and strength.

Mindvoice: Naurimeth is outspoken, fluent in the art of language, and isn't afraid to speak her mind. Her alto tones are silky when tender or flirtatious and almost brassy when she’s passionately trying to get her point across. She prefers to speak in words rather than imagery, but like all dragons, there’s a flicker of something more with her dialogue. Flashes of color, sometimes garish or unexpected and the odd suggestions of motion or line accompany her thoughts. Occasionally, rather than a fully formed picture, you may just get a silhouette of shape. No matter what, it is always striking and unusual, never subtle. She has a knack for remembering names and might help you in the odd moment by supplying them when one escapes you.

Internal Impression Message: One minute, you're standing on the Istan sands, and the next you're alone with a spotlight obliterating your vision. The first reaction might be to panic, but before you can, a rich laugh touches your mind. Self-confident, proud even, a voice reaches out to you through that blinding void. << My, my, >> she purrs, her tone both fond and amused at the same time. << Seems I've found what I've been looking for, hm? Seems to be you. >> A wave of adoration hits you as the overwhelming light begins to evaporate, and very soon you can see the Headstrong Stone-Wrought Green before you, watching you expectantly, lovingly. << Well? Come now, Kamia. My stomach rumbles loudly, and I can't possibly accomplish anything with it droning on and on as it is. >> A moment, and you get the distinct impression that she's grinning. << I'm Naurimeth. >>

External Impression Message: With a final snort, Headstrong Stone-Wrought Green Dragonet seems to have found what she's looking for. Making an abrupt U-turn, she comes face to face with a strawberry blonde girl, plops herself down, and claims her for her own.

Temperament

Weyrling:

As a weyrling, Naurimeth is going to be fearless. She'll get into anything she can, and especially things she shouldn’t. Vats of oil? Yup. Herdbeast dung? Of course! If it's within reach she'll be on top of it in a heartbeat. Be sure to keep an eye on her, or you may find yourself obliged to explain her errors to the weyrlingmaster! She doesn’t mean to make mischief – she’s not a puck or a trickster at heart – she’s just so curious, so impulsive and unafraid. If you’re not careful she’ll be involving you in her adventures too – regardless of your reservations.

Naurimeth tends to fight for her opinion, and even if she eventually knows differently, she'll rarely admit she was wrong. She'll be a headstrong young dragon, and you'll have to learn fast how to tell her 'no'. When she finds something she likes, it consumes her. The cause becomes her life, be it begging to fly before the weyrling staff has cleared it, or pleading for Takavath not to receive a punishment for some clever misbehavior. Don’t put it past her to register her objection with ‘demonstration’ either: << I refuse to get out of this bath until we’re allowed to hunt! >> Watch out – once she has a cause in mind it's likely she'll ignore other things for it. Like, say, Weyrling lessons?

She loves to have fun, from swimming in the ocean to outrageous stunts in the air. She's not above a little danger, and has never seen the problem with bending (or breaking!) a few rules. She's strong, she can take it! Her sense of adventure is grand, and believing the pair of you to be invincible, she won't have an ounce of concern for your responsibilities. << Relax a little! It's not like anyone will /see/. >>

Adult:

By the time you’re placed in a fighting wing, Naurimeth will learn she can’t always do exactly as she likes. Though she’ll continue to love fun and fascination, she by now understands her responsibilities and yours – to your Weyr, your world, and one another.

As her skills and outlook mature, so will her aesthetic sensibilities. Her dedication to her causes does not preclude an affinity for art and beauty, and any inclination you may have to these would be encouraged just as easily as your more ‘riderly’ or professional aspirations. She loves also the work of other artists, and when the opportunity arises may press you to take her to see the work of crafters or ask Harpers for songs. << I love the one about the little boy, tell it again? >> She imagines herself a bit of a critic, and adores those that take chances or are less well-received by their peers. << It is their uniqueness - their lack of conformity - that is so appealing. >>

She is at heart a dragon aware of herself – aware and accepting. Proud of what she’s become, she wouldn’t change herself if she could – and just the same, she’s convinced you are perfect just as you are. She supports you not because you need it, but because she knows you’ll succeed! She won’t tolerate self-doubt from you, and will work long and hard to show you your own worthiness. She may even challenge you to prove her point, pushing you out of your comfort zone – but at the end of the day all she wants is for you to know it’s good to be different.

Flight:

A few days before her hide starts to glow, her personality will change. Subtly, slowly – she may be frivolous at first, then a bit more self-conscious. She may question herself (or you!) in ways she normally would not, her confidence less certain than usual. As she nears her time, she'll get fuzzy, her mind focused on other matters – or struggling to focus at all. Handling herself gracefully becomes a challenge during this time, when her hazy mind frustrates her (and perhaps you as well), and extra attention from males who sense her state won’t help.

It’s almost a relief when she finally rises, and she flies with passion and resolve. She is just as determined in the chase as she is in her convictions, taking her males out for a many-partnered tango they won't soon forget. And what a treat for the lucky fellow who falls into step with her dance – she’s his true and through, if only for a few sweet moments. When she’s caught she’s relaxed, willing to submit to his success, the only time in her life she lets someone else take control. But as soon as she's back on the ground, the male’s an afterthought, those sparkling moments soon forgotten.

Wing:

Naurimeth is a formidable flyer. When she is in the air, her entire will and consciousness will be focused on flying and fighting to the best of her abilities. She'll push you to practice, making sure to perfect every move she can, as quickly as she can. Her drive and ambition mean that she's not quite the team player she should be in the sky, but once the formations are broken and the work is over she’ll be a great asset to those around her – as a peer, a partner, a member of the flying fellowship. Once prone to mischief, her adventurous nature now lends itself well to schemes she imagines will benefit the wing – and like she did when you were weyrlings, she’ll take you along if you let her. From procuring better hide for straps to matchmaking among her peers (and yours!), when she sees some way to help her mates, she’s on it.

A charismatic speaker and consummate flirt, she makes friends readily, and is more liable than most greens to remember the major personal details of her wingmates and their riders’ lives. Rare are the deeper friendships, however, and her relationship with you is and ever will be deepest and most abiding of all.
