Madge's Brown Takavath

Script Egg

The nearly white, matte surface of this rather large egg is liberally peppered with semi-glossy, midnight characters of every seeming shape and size - a veritable field of nonsense words and symbols penned by some unknown hand. As one more closely studies this ovoid for any semblance of meaning to the calligraphy. Whatever work this egg brought forth upon its smooth surface, unfortunately remains hidden and indistinct - subject to individual interpretation and the whims of light and the moment.

Egg Inspiration: This egg is based off of the scripts (paper and ink) from which the actors learn their lines.

Hatching Message: Script Egg’s wiggling about has done little to help it; on the contrary, it’s now deeper in the sand than when it started, and the hatchling inside seems terrified at the prospect of being buried alive, as the sand trickles back to fill in over it’s shell. The egg gives a jump that could be frantic, and when it lands the shell spider webs neatly, but doesn’t fall apart as such. It’s a flurry of shards, most of which end up clinging to his hide.

Shrewd Savannah Brown

At first glance, it’s hard to notice anything about this brown except for his unusual build. The outline of his full form is bold and bulky rather than long and lean, excepting the sharp feature that is his muzzle and the whiplike length of his tail. His musculature is a promise of endurance and strength, if not excessive speed, tightly wound cords that ripple beneath the sepia of his hide with movements even as miniscule as a turn of his head. He’s of a dusky coloration, a burnt shade of umber that maintains a relative uniformity over his hide. In contrast to that darkness, a brighter shade of ochre brushes along his shoulders and chest, accentuating their burly strength. The same color can be seen sparingly on other parts of his frame: dominating the tip of his tail, and patches of worn suede at each joint. His girth and darkness lend him a surly confidence.

Final Size: 34.8

Dragon Inspiration: Your dragon is based off Scar, the primary villain in The Lion King; though his animated character is better known, he is also played by John Vickery in the musical, where the character gains even more depth and personality. Per you request, there’s a dash of your dear Al Swearengen in there too. Both characters are fierce and darkly regal, protective of what they hold dear and capable of a sharp turn of phrase. We hope that our melding of the two personalities will give you something new and interesting to play and a jumping off point for your own plots and visions.

Name: Takavath - Takavath's name is derived from the Swahili word 'taka', which has a double meaning of 'want' and 'dirt'. Originally, Scar was named Taka at birth, and only took on the name Scar to remind himself that acts without thought yield consequences. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lion_King:_Six_New_Adventures#A_Tale_of_Two_Brothers

Mindvoice: Takavath’s mindvoice rumbles like a storm; the reverberation of his voice growls and drawls. Whether he’s murmuring a dark, whiskey purr in your ear or commanding with the grind of sand and gravel, his presence has a danger that might leave a lesser person quaking in their boots. He uses imagery sparingly, letting his sharp, deliberate words stand alone. You’ll never see silk from him, the rare images that accompany his words are rough and cast in sepia: leather, dirt, metal and grit. These he’ll use when he needs no words.

Internal Impression Message: Everything is silent. There’s no crowd, no dragons, no humming. It’s all gone, if only for a second that passes like an hour. And then, when the second has ticked away, somewhere in the back of your mind is a distant thundering. You can feel it, like electricity, pulsing across your skin and making the back of your neck prickle with the anticipation of something immense. Louder, louder, louder it gets, until a million hoof-beats fill your head and echoes through your mind, your heart, and the rest of your body. << Madge… Or should I say Medea? >> The voice in your head is a low drawl, dusty and refined, like a wine that’s spent Turns upon Turns settling; somehow, in its quiet tone, the voice is louder than all the rest of the happenings in your head. << Well, don’t just /stand/ there. You’re so hungry. We should eat something. >> And all at once, you know his name, but he says it anyway, as the thundering fades away. << I’m Takavath. And you’re /mine/ now. >>

External Impression Message: Shrewd Savannah Brown looks beyond frustrated – with his neck arched, he looks down his nose towards the band of white-things blocking him in, and then back towards his parents. Must I /really/ go on with this nonsense? Then, suddenly, his head jerks back around, to the side he lingered at only moments ago. As though he’s attached to a leash that’s been suddenly tugged, he slinks closer to the candidates, stopping in front of a girl with dark shaggy hair and brown eyes that hold the same sharp glint as his own.

Temperament

Weyrling:

The moment his mind touches yours, you'll find in Takavath an innate cunning, one that presents itself first in words and later in clever actions. He's smart, and he knows it - he just needs some help fine-tuning those little skills (like being tactfully insulting, and thinking before acting). Whether he asks for it or not, you may want to give him that guidance, which could leave you learning tact and forethought too. He'll be a commanding hatchling, not only expecting but /demanding/ that you be there for him every waking moment, and sometimes in the non-waking ones. << Madge. Get up. How do you expect to claim the choice pieces of herdbeast if you always insist on slumbering? >> Some days it will seem like his only goal is to keep you on your toes. You will be working hard all the time: to keep Takavath happy, promises made must not be broken, and should you forget or deliberately shirk something your obligations, he’s likely to be indignant as long as he can remember.

Despite being so troublesome, Takavath is a studious weyrling; in classes, he’ll be intently focused on whatever it is being taught. He’s a quiet sort, then, with the grace to keep his snide remarks to himself throughout lessons, only standing out when he’s called upon to do something. Then, he’ll have a tendency to surprise people, either with his extreme prowess or his sudden forthright opinion. He has an inclination towards being smooth and sure with his bulk, but on the odd occasion that he misjudges, it will leave him cross for days. In the matters of flight and flaming he is quite a natural, and the moment you hit the sky together you’ll know exactly where Takavath’s home /really/ is.

Adult:

As he grows, your Takavath will find in himself a desire for power. The moment he begins to notice other dragons in such positions -- especially other browns, like Sulizath and Cansoth -- he'll begin to pine for leadership himself. << One day, we will be Weyrleader, mine. They will have to write a legend of us - the first brown and woman Weyrleader! Think of their faces. >> He may even start to court queens early, attracted by their rank and all that he thinks goes with it. But the flirtatious banter somehow lacks the tenderness that you may catch when he’s talking to a favored green.

When Takavath matures, his actions and words will become more thoughtful, more careful, and more shrewd. His insults will become dry, his sarcasm scathing, and he’ll use it every turn he’s able. His number one priority is still you, but now that he’s old enough to understand all the politics, he doesn’t show any signs of settling for less than what he thinks you both deserve.

His memory is long enough for him to plot out complex plans, and should he come up with one that you have the urge to try out, you may well find that they’re not as crazy as you may have thought. Takavath is a great judge of character (though sometimes his predictions as to /why/ someone is that sort of character can be skewed) and it makes him a master at predicting the outcome of his own plans, which may be either large or small in the grand scheme of things.

No matter what his schemes may be, or whom he’ll knock aside in the meantime, he only has your best interest at heart. He’s constantly looking out for you, at your side, looming at your shoulder, staring down your opponents with you.

Flight:

Takavath’s interest in golds will seldom be based on their personalities, but rather on their rank or power. Though otherwise gruff, he has a rare soft-spot for certain greens, which he tends to protect as much as he does you, especially those flirty ones who may be discarded by other males.

When he does decide to pursue a female, Takavath will chase with every fiber of his being, if only to prove himself. He rarely lowers himself to outright trickery or injury of another dragon, but again, he’s not above making some else do his dirty work. Taunting the other males until the unwary collide, causing a distraction – all’s fair in love and war. When the consequences of his actions are greater than he figured, he’ll still be nonchalant. << Well, if they had been paying more attention to her and not to me, maybe they wouldn’t have hurt each other. >>

Should he ever sire a clutch, he’ll prowl around it as every dutiful parent should. He’s got a tendency towards being almost as possessive as the queen. After all, those are /his/ kids!

Wing:

Takavath will likely fail to be as studious a wingrider as he was a weyrling. The moment he feels he’s got nothing left to learn, he’ll become more lax, if not particularly lazy, in his drills, his promptness or his attention towards his superiors. If, for any reason, Takavath comes to dislike any of his leadership, he’s like to offend them one way or another.

And, should Takavath ever become some sort of leader, through a clever plan or legitimate terms, he’ll do everything he can to keep his claws dug in. He has a tendency to be a selfish leader, willing to put his subordinates into grave danger if only to prove to others – or you, or perhaps himself – that he’s no coward. << We can fly this ‘Fall alone; there is no need to call Volath for more riders! >> Your own common sense will have to temper this, or there’s a chance that someone will end up badly scored or even killed.

In a Fall, Takavath is built for stamina, whether it be the endurance of his wings or the broad strength of his flame. He’s better at taking out wide swaths of Thread and leaving the smaller remnants for more agile dragons. He prides himself on his tireless perseverance and thus loathes to show when his energy is waning, choosing instead to push himself to the very edge of his limits.
