R'klen's Bronze Arsiloth
Dandelion Clocks Egg
Catch sight of this egg out of the corner of your eye and you might think it was moving-- blowing in the wind, maybe. Look at it directly, and you'll see a finely speckled egg of whites, grays, and tans, a pattern that manages to look downy and soft. Along the lower edge, where the egg meets the sand, the coloring turns a deep green.
Egg Inspiration: Dandelion Clocks, the tufts that dandelions turn into when they turn to seed. Folklore says that the number of blows it takes to blow away all the seeds is the current hour.
Hatching Message: Dandelion Clocks Egg trembles for a moment before beginning to rock violently. A web-work of cracks cover the egg, which splinter and fall away one by one, until the rest are pushed away, leaving a somewhat baffled-looking bronze blinking in the light, sitting in a pile of broken eggshells.
August Lambent Bronze
Radiant, lambent light plays along this august bronze's body, liquid fire in the shape of a dragon. A long, wedge-shaped head, graced with powerful jaws, distinct eyeridges and sharp, backwards-swept headknobs, tops a neck of lithe muscularity, molten bronze running from his snout to pool in dark eddies along the underside of his jaw and around large, deep-set eyes. Rich radiance flows down his neck, pooling again around muscular shoulders before fading in a lightening trickle of copper at his forepaws, brilliant highlights accenting dark claws. His shadowed neckridges are distinct and uniform, each tipped with fiery brass. Wingspars, both long for speed and broad for power, support wingsails of pale gilt translucence. Fire accents rippling muscle and powerful sinew, flickering down long, strong hind legs, forming dark eddies tinged with sparks of red-gold. His tail is somewhat flattened, a dark whiplash tipped by a broad fork.
Final Size: 38
Dragon Inspiration: Arsiloth is based on the character Aragorn from the Lord of the Rings books and movies. Aragon was chosen to fit our theme of Black and White because he is a good guy, as in those who wear white hats. In the movie, "Return of the King," when he is first encountered, he is depicted by black and darkness. Also, his heraldry for the realm of Gondor, of which he becomes king, is a striking white tree on a black field. For personality, I dipped into the book, making Arsiloth's weyrlinghood as close to Aragorn's youth as I could -- he lived with the elves in Rivendel, learning all manner of elvish lore and history. Some of the more playful aspects of him were derived from the elves, with their extreme curiosity and love of music and verse. Aragorn was a steady, relatively unflappable character -- strong, brave, wise beyond measure of men -- and of course, a leader by right of birth and descent from Isildur, son of Elendil. Using the shards of his father's sword, Narsil, Isildur cut the ring from Sauron's hand, unwittingly setting the stage for the War of the Ring.
Name: Arsiloth - Arsiloth's description and his name are both based on the name Narsil, which translates as 'fire-sheen' from the elvish -- the fire in this case being the bronze and the sheen being the brighter, golden highlights. Narsil is also the sword Aragorn carries, and when made Arsiloth seemed a good match for your requests for qualities in a name.
Mindvoice: Quiet, firm self-assurance marks this dragon's voice, surrounded with whispers of forest woodlands, the chill of mountain breezes and the soft music of babbling brooks. His speech is that of a tale-teller, a reciter of epic poetry - his tone is rich and melodious and his rhythm even and smooth. Sometimes his voice sparks flames, fluttering about his words like moths, gently brushing you with surprising softness but with energy enough to set one's heart aflame.
Internal Impression Message: A soft shimmer of silver wrapped with gold clouds your vision, and silence descends upon you as the heat of the sands slowly fades from your perception. A soft, pine-scented breeze caresses your sweaty skin, transporting you to a deep mountain vale. The sound of water, the rippling murmur of a running stream, instills itself into your senses. Suddenly, a lambent glow hazes over the scene as a soft, smooth and mellow voice insinuates itself into your mind: << I have sought long and hard for you, R'klen, for you are the one meant for me. From the heat of the hatching sands I, Arsiloth, come to you, to claim you as mine, and for you to take me as yours. We are one now, you and I, one heart, one mind, one soul, until our dying day. >>
External Impression Message: August Lambent Bronze scans the various candidates with a measuring eye. Then -- there! There he is! The one he has been searching for, the one with whom he shall be forever linked. Shaking off sand and bits of egg goo, he strides confidently towards a certain red-haired young man.
Temperament
Weyrling:
Even as he leaves the sands, this bronze carries himself with self-confidence and poise. Along with a voracious appetite, he is endlessly curious, besieging you with questions: << Where are the big dragons? Why do I have to chew my meat? What do you when I'm taking a nap? >> and so on. The questions do eventually become fewer and fewer as he matures, but his curiosity may never be fully sated.
As a bronze, he knows that he may well be destined for great things, so he throws himself into his lessons with extreme vigor. His hardy constitution and natural athleticism allow him to push himself after most other dragons give up. And he will expect the same devotion from you -- << Why can't you work as hard as I do? >> But he knows when you have been pushed too far and backs off, not wanting to hurt his lifemate, for he is yours, and ever supportive.
As Arsiloth matures and the lessons become more physical in nature -- flying, betweening, flaming -- a certain one-upmanship may begin to show, an innate belief that he is better than any of his clutchsibs. He often learns quickly, and even early on may be able to out-fly and out-flame many of his fellows -- and he is quite proud of his abilities.
Powerful and self-assured, he is fully aware of his strengths, but he is also aware that not all dragons are as strong and adept as he is. He will try to maintain good relations with his clutchsibs, and even moreso with the elder dragons, whom he recognizes as leaders because of their greater experience. He is a born leader, wanting to emulate those he admires and willing to share his strengths, though not without a touch of arrogance that may come across as a little overbearing.
Adult:
s an adult, Arsiloth will continue developing the characteristics he exhibited in weyrlinghood: strength, self-confidence and an even temper. No matter what your mood may be, Arsiloth is always available to be your bulwark, your rock, your anchor, both physically and emotionally.
Bronzes are the biggest of dragons, and Arsiloth is on the large end of the size spectrum. Robustly built, he is a natural athlete, taking to both the air and the water with ease. He possesses both speed and endurance -- assets to a fighting dragon. - but he also knows his limits.
Although seemingly stolid and steady in nature, Arsiloth has a sly, dry sense of humor. His wit is not of the sort that would pull practical jokes -- he is not that obvious -- but more tart observation. On watching an overburdened drudge bearing a load of laundry, he might say, << Perhaps he has a bit more than he can carry. >> At times he can be downright playful, encouraging you to 'let your hair down' with him, making for a pleasant contrast to his normal quiet, even temper.
Arsiloth has a fondness for music, story and song. Let there be a beach party with such things and he may stay there, enraptured by the sound and the words. Even the brief snatches of song one might hear from someone going about his daily tasks is enough to capture his attention. He also finds music in the sounding of the waves, the wind in the trees and the singing of the jungle avians. He is a lover of beauty, particularly feminine beauty. But his interest generally does not extend to romance -- although he will flirt on occasion -- it is more along the lines of admiration.
Flight:
Arsiloth's love of beauty - especially beautiful females, both human and draconic - takes a dramatic leap to the fore when a green or gold is glowing. His masculinity is something that he need not show off -- there is no need in his mind for one as exceptional as he is to give in to mere posturing. His own attitude and confidence are display enough.
Blooding is done quickly and cleanly -- no need wasting energy that is better spent on the flight -- but he might do a little bit of flexing and stretching for the benefit of the other chasers.
When the glowing female does take to the sky, he tries to stay close behind her. Self-confidence can turn quickly to arrogance, however, as the flight wears on and he starts to match the female move for move, dive for dive, a determined treasure-hunter. Even with his great stamina, he may give out quickly unless he remembers that he has a destiny to fulfill, a female to win. Then bravado gives way to craft as he uses his power to pull into position to make the catch.
When he loses, he does not waste his energies in sulking or pouting but flies back to his weyr to be with you so that the two of you can commiserate over the loss.
Wing:
With his size and strength, Arsiloth is an asset to any wing. As a bronze, he is expected to last a full 'fall, performing the bulk of the flaming while leaving the remnants to the smaller, more agile blues and greens. He is ever aware of his purpose in life -- to char Thread without question or hesitation. This same determination is taken to rope drills and formation flying -- these are things that must be done without question. His sense of duty is impressed on the other pairs in the wing -- encouraging, helping and sometimes scolding.
He is a natural leader, and other dragons may sense it, even if his leadership is only from within the ranks. He is a faithful follower too, doing everything he can to live up to the Wingleader's and Wingsecond's desires, fulfilling orders without question, particularly if they are in line with his own convictions. He is not, however, faithful to the point of stupidity -- he is possessed of a good deal of common sense - so he may be prone to advising his wingmates if he senses that they are in danger.
