T'ace's Brown Eldenth

Seemingly Sunken Egg

If ever an egg was bony, this one's it. Whether by some unfortunate squishing in its expulsion or just the way its raggedly white surface is shaded, it manages to look more oblong than round, with shadows along its sunken-seeming sides, and yellowing atop its ridge. It seems almost furred, fluffed in downy white hairs, but that's surely a trick of the light. If it were fuller-shaped, it might look like a rather large egg, but the oddities of its design contrive to shrink it within itself, in appearance if not actuality. As it is, this egg seems almost like it must hug the form of the growing occupant within: a skin, and not a shell.

Egg Inspiration: Based on my roommate's old and skinny white cat, who has apparently decided not only that she adores me but also that I am the most comfortablest seat in the world. Every. Single. Time I sit down.

Hatching Message: Seemingly Sunken Egg loses its fluffy, aged appearance as those spinnerweb cracks multiply geometrically by the moment, the ovoid listing heavily onto its side. An explosion of fragments rains through heated air - a cloud of debris formed from the egg's collapse - sifting down quickly onto the spraddle-legged form of a fresh hatchling.

Sardonic Sable Brown

There's something about the long, slim form of this lanky brown that hints at the personality within. It might be the rather deadpan expression of his features; maybe the slightest hint of a smirk at one corner of his mouth; perhaps the aura of mystery lurking behind his outsized eyes. Whatever it may be, it's well-disguised by the relatively uniform duskiness of his leanly-muscled, brunet hide - the cool-toned klah coloration stretching uninterrupted from squat headknobs and wide, strong wingsails to the whip-like tips of his tail. A thin, horizontal splash of inky sable-brown shades his eyes and upper cheeks, its created illusion of shadow successfully shielding them from all but the most intense of inspections - while a more carob tone swirls from chin and the underside of his neck into a barrel chest - a 'vest' of sorts beneath his formal coat of darker hues. Large paws sport sharp claws of onyx-black, lending even more credence to his angular, blatant 'take-or-leave-it' stance.

Final Size: 33.7

Dragon Inspiration: Eldenth is based on Elwood Blues, one of the main characters in the movie and onetime Saturday Night Live sketch, 'The Blues Brothers.' A straight-faced, dark-humored wiseacre steeped in the rich 'soul and street' heritage of Chicago, Elwood is the left hand to his self-adopted brother 'Joliet' Jake Blues. Though Elwood is capable of quite the bag of cons and tricks, his heart is in the right place, ultimately - even encouraging his more bitter brother to see 'The Penguin,' the nun who helps to raise them at the orphanage and that is now in need of funding, though it costs them their freedom.

Name: Eldenth - Eldenth is from elder + Elwood. Elwood acted as an older brother figure for Jake, so this name seemed fitting, as he'll be a brother to you as well, T'ace.

Mindvoice: A factual, but rather melodic low tenor richly steeped with a soulful touch of street-cred sings in dark, even tones when Eldenth chooses to speak. When his humor wells, drawling, bluesy harmonica-like tones amplify his usual patterns - contrasted by his flat, stilted delivery when angered. The scents and tastes of leather and whiskey often overlap in his communication, though Eldenth is more given to words and harmonies than pictures or colors - indeed, most of his fewer images are starkly in black-and-white - but when listening to music or enjoying a particularly great time, his mental colors burst into temporary, multi-chromatic brilliance.

Internal Impression Message: The clamor and oppressive heat of the Sands seems to fade from your consciousness - the world blurring at the edges as what may be the beginnings of a collapse take hold. And then... it isn't the shock you might have been expecting. There is no jolt, no earth-shaking or shattering that rips then reunites your being. Just a voice of experience far beyond his age, a deep tenor that tastes and smells of smooth whiskey and fine, new leather - backed by a soulful threnody as it slips effortlessly into harmony with your own mind - joins seamlessly and irrevocably with its other half: its soul brother until the end of both your days. << T'ace, you're finally here. It was a long time, locked up in there in that egg, but we're together for good, now. I'm Eldenth, >> the voice adds, and you feel as if you've known it forever - along with a hunger that ravages your gut. << Let's eat. >>

External Impression Message: This hatchling can afford no more time with diversions - his stomach now rumbling so loud those nearer him can hear it. His red gaze swings almost shyly between one white-clad figure and the next, the tentative young one treading cautiously as he concentrates on finding the One... *There!* Shock interrupts his musings, and the Sardonic Sable Brown hatchling gallops suddenly, clumsily - careening into the legs of a lad with a sandy-blonde runner's tail. Rainbow eyes lock with light blue ones, and the hatchling gives a melodic croon to *his* boy.

Temperament

Weyrling:

Eldenth is an understatedly bold, earthy personality - likely to be a real handful from the moment he locks eyes with you. Though he has lots of latent intellect, his propensity to apply himself to only those things that pander to his interests or yours might keep him from realizing his full potential. When he gets in trouble for his stark remarks or probing curiosity, he'll just shrug his shoulders and shake off the consequences, leaving you to the ire of your weyrlingmasters.

He can be similarly detached and cool when dealing with those persons or things he considers enemies, but Eldenth is doggedly loyal and very protective of those he considers family. In private moments he's willing enough to give and accept affection - after all, you're brothers through thick and thin.

His first flight may be long looked forward to by Eldenth, since he seems to be obsessed with racing through the air. If you haven't yet conquered your aversion to flying, he can make this time rather difficult for you with all the maneuvers he wants to try. << You don't like my flyin'? >> ZOOM! As for finally getting to hunt his own food, however...well, that's not such a big deal to him. Not the fussy type, he's almost as happy eating dry white toast as raw meat. So whether you get it for him, or he hunts it...well, it's just fuel.

While many of his Weyrlinghood lessons will bore him, anything that has to do with fighting Thread receives his immediate and deep attention: Eldenth has an almost-fanatical dedication to exterminating the menace - a match to your own. It's not just his duty or what he was hatched to do - it's a higher calling. << Those strands are not gonna catch us. We're on a mission for Pern. >>

Adult:

Though he won't lie outright, Eldenth is quite willing to twist the truth around, bend it some - like *this* - to benefit you and himself if needs be...especially to get either of you off the hook. While he doesn't show much on the outside, on the *inside* he'll be smirking - well pleased with how his permutations of 'the truth' have affected his clutchsibs and even other, older dragons. << What was I gonna do? Take away your only hope, T'ace? Take away the very thing that kept you going in there? I took the liberty 'a lyin' to you. >>

His humor can be sly and dark or crass and lowbrow - whatever the situation seems to call for, however he feels at the moment. Eldenth is a dragon capable of surprises, big and small, and don't think for a moment that he's unwilling to pull a fast one on *you* - for your own good, of course. Patient and calculating, he's able to identify the intricacies of a situation and use them to his advantage. Though disinterested in playing tricks for trickery's sake, he can be a con artist when the purpose is noble.

Of course, his gritty smarts only aid him in how to respond to an ever-changing life - one which will certainly not be boring for either of you once you are brothers forever. If you want him to be more than an uncouth wiseacre and a secretly-smirking con-man, you'd better be ready to put in some work to keep him on the straight and narrow. Provide him with the causes he needs to apply himself, and there's very little Eldenth can't accomplish. And you'll always know you can rely on his cleverness.

Flight:

Though he might appear a little 'lost' to others without you, brother T'ace, Eldenth shows more of what lurks inside when he decides to pursue a lovely lady. His usual stark tones and disinterest in the fairer gender fall away, revealing the driven heart within. This particular high-pressure time can bring out the best and worst in him, and you may just find your dragon snapping and clawing at his competition, as well as openly courting the object of his desire.

If he wins that green or gold, Eldenth revels in the triumph of the moment, enjoying a cozy perch with her once their flight is through. But, all-too-quickly, he's back to being a rather disinterested male - not bothering with much charm or apology when he leaves. If he loses, his upset is likely lesser than that of some males, his frustration burned off by a brisk swim, or a witty ego-soothing remark about the female or her mate.

As a potential clutchsire, Eldenth is rather...inattentive. Not just of the dam, but of their eggs as well. He's just not much in the father material department, and the likely unhappy queen will probably be forced to keep an eye on things, lest Eldenth try to sneak off or fall asleep on the job.

Wing:

Eldenth is a born threadfighter, and 'fall drives him to the extreme. He's a natural part of the team but capable of individual effort, too, as the silvery organism threatens *his* Weyr, *his* family. Though he doesn't aspire to leadership, he's capable of it - with you working side-by-side with him, two sides of the same coin.

He's a stable, solid flyer, but capable of a few more tricks and precise moves than some other browns because of his leaner form. Plenty of endurance and an aggressive attitude not only lend him to flying both long and short threadfalls, but sometime also may get him into trouble if he decides to ill-advisedly pursue a tangle against orders. << You want outta' this formation? >> or << Faranth, sweet Lady of Acceleration, don't fail us now. >>

If he decides to indulge himself in a spur-of-the-moment Search, he'll likely not waste time about it. He'll make certain his intended cannot get away, and then either stake his claim on the unwitting soul - or devise a jest to trick them into accepting.
