E'rik's Brown Seith
Bivalve Abode Egg
White but not starkly so, this egg is the dull, unremarkable shade of bone, mottled and dotted with sandy brown, pastel pink, and pale lavender. Yet the pattern of faint gray lines and shallow impressions make this small orb anything but dull. It seems as if it has been plastered with an endless number of seashells in varying sizes and shapes, scalloping in curving arches across the smooth surface. The soft ridge-like shadows gather together in a million little fans with rippling, ruffled edges forming an intricate mosaic of creamy shades.
Egg Inspiration: Seashells!
Hatching Message: The Bivalve Abode egg gives a final quivering quake and breaks apart into three distinct sections, releasing what looks like a pearly brown egg onto the sands, so tightly and compactly coiled is the hatchling within. It takes a moment or two for the Reckless Mollusk Brown hatchling to unfold and unfurl himself, gleaming wetly with the remains of his former home.
Reckless Mollusk Brown
Pearly pale brown gleams in subtly shifting layers along this sinuous dragon's hide, muted taupe grayed out in places until he moves and then the soft shimmer of tawny sienna married with creamy swirls of lighter tan reappears in a tantalizing tradeoff of tones. His proportions are all skewed in favor of length and a horizontal quality persists through an elongated neck and the lean lines of his body which moves low to the ground on too-short legs and is accentuated by his trailing tail. Slender wings of pearlescent taupe cleave closely to his body when folded. His face is long with with a flat muzzle, wide, flaring nostrils, a broad, intelligent forehead and elegant, streamlined headknobs that angle back sharply towards his skull. Liquid eyes are darker than most dragons', favoring indigo, forest and plum, rather than lighter colors to signify his emotions. Faded striations add interest to his hide along his tail, like the effects of ocean water on a mollusk shell from the deeps.
Final Size: 36.5
Dragon Inspiration: Falkor, the Luck Dragon from "The Neverending Story" by Michael Ende. Falkor is light-hearted, a little sly, funny, loyal and devoted but somewhat reckless due to his trust in his own luck to get him through things. His pearly-white body suits him to our clutch theme of characters with white/black associations and is the basis for the nacreous description of Dragonth, with added inspiration from photographs of pearl oysters.

Name: Seith - His name, Seith, is derived from Japanese words associated with Luck, and as he is the Luck Dragon, this seemed fitting.
Mindvoice: Always full of laughter, Seith's mindvoice is rich and sonorous, on the deeper side though not basso profundo. Rich with the tones of a musician playing wooden bells or a lower end of the scale wooden glockenspiel, his touch is full of the warmth of fine wood, earthy and scented of the earth, yet with each note distinct. Often ringing, Seith's woody tones can sometimes get to feeling a little loud in your head, especially when he's younger before he's learned the fine art of tempering his sendings. When he recalls his mental touch, sometimes you might also find the strangely lingering yet oddly comforting and familiar scent of damp fur, though your Seith of course has only hide.
Internal Impression Message: From somewhere far away an echo seems to sound, nagging at your ears, no wait, that's not in your ears, it's in your /head/ and it's not a proper sound either. What the heck is it? Coming closer and closer the echo resolves into a sort of woody ringing, pressing insistently against your consciousness. Suddenly it all becomes clear, it's laughter, merry and bright. << E'rik. Can you hear me? I'm here, right here. There, yes. It's me. Seith. Oh look at that dragon! Doesn't he look funny tottering around with his wings held up like that? >> The ringing fades away and you're left only with a permanent fixture in your mind, Seith's mind twining within yours as tightly as he curled within his shell. << Oh hey, what's this feeling in my belly? Wow. That's. Wow. I don't like that. What can we do about it? Where do we go next? >>
External Impression Message: Winding his way determinedly across the sands with oddly fluid grace, even on too-short legs, the Reckless Mollusk Brown suddenly bounds forward exuberantly, careless of the fact that his tail is about to dump a candidate on his rear end as he runs by. He heads straight for one of the youngest candidates, a small boy with unkempt, sandy blonde hair. He practically bowls the fellow over, leaning up on his haunches to stare right into his dark brown eyes.
Temperament
Weyrling:
As a young hatchling, Seith is full of all the energy and optimism that youth provides, so much so that he can be quite a risk-taker with his own safety and to a certain extent with yours, though he'll be dismayed when his impulses lead you both into trouble. There's nothing Seith won't throw himself into with rampant enthusiasm for the task, trying to tackle everything the Weyrlingmasters throw your way to master his lessons and hone his technique. He has infinite trust in the both of you and in your ability to handle things; sometimes he will barely have listened to instructions before he's already trying to act, to do what's been described. This could lead to problems with him jumping into things too soon, before his young body is ready, and disciplinary issues as you get dragged along into whatever escapade he's come up with today.
For all he seems to take unnecessary risks, Seith does have his talents and anything to do with flying is one of them; for example, his long sinuous shape lends itself to elegance in the air and he has speed to rival a green's. You may both struggle with such tasks as learning Between and flaming, not because Seith isn't good at them, but because he's so sure that you'll get everything right the first time. It doesn't help that he seems to pick up these skills easily. Even when mistakes are made, he has the most amazing positive attitude, which he may call his 'luck' to pull the two of you out of whatever problem you've run up against. Playful, your Seith shares your love of humor, having a wicked sense of one himself. In fact you might find him slyly suggesting little jokes to play on your fellow weyrlings, none of them mean-spirited, but still pranks.
Adult:
His mind is often full of laughter, so many amusing things to be found as he discovers his new world outside the egg. As he matures, Seith, with your help, will likely learn to curb the worst of his reckless habits, though his optimistic outlook will stick with him along with his wry sense of humor. His determination to do well will pay off in spades as he learns to steady himself and can tap into his natural abilities to become a reliable, steadfast member of his wing. At times you may find yourself surprised at his thoughtfulness once the headlong enthusiasm of youth is tempered by experience.
For all he's so playful and upbeat, Seith has a certain wisdom to him, born of the energetic observations of his younger days. Where once he'd only supply humorous commentary and possible jokes, now he has more insight to offer, sometimes at the oddest moments, non-sequiturs that might not seem funny to you, but will seem perfectly logical to him. Once he's mastered a skill, Seith is supremely confident in his ability to do it again and again and may still require reminding that he's not infallible. His remarkably positive attitude, still seen by him as his 'luck,' will likely to continue to hold, such that he may become the go-to dragon to pitch in when the chips are down, especially for you or for those with whom he has formed an easy friendship. Drills and the practice of mid-air rescues might be activities that you both enjoy and at which Seith is particularly adept. Seith may also develop a penchant for carrying passengers, and this may give him the opportunity to meet many new people, which may put him in a position to discover potential candidates along the way.
Flight:
When greens and golds start to glow, Seith's playful nature takes a bit of a back seat to his latent instinct. His compliments are not of the flowery type, still well imbued with his sense of humor. He's an engaging sort when trying to woo a lady to twine tails with him. His agility makes up for his size, such that fleet greens are not too much of a challenge - at least as he sees it - though his stamina when he's younger would be sorely taxed during a goldflight until he gets some experience under his wings. Once he does get some practice and increases his staying power, he'll be able to give most golds a high flying time in the sky with a combination of aerial tricks and sheer flying power.
Overall, Seith is your partner-in-crime, the missing link that you might have longed for over the turns, to share your humor and your helpful nature with, but also, eventually a thoughtful presence in your mind to help you make sense out of things as you both navigate the treacherous waters of Pern's current turbulent times.
Wing:
All dragons are committed to fighting Thread, but Seith is especially tenacious with his duties as a fighting dragon. Be it sweeps or actually rising to meet a Fall, he is dogged in his pursuit of every last silver strand, unsatisfied until the skies are pristine. Supportive of his wingmates, when trouble arises, he's the first on the scene, some of his youthful recklessness returning as he throws himself into the very serious business of making sure everyone in the wing comes back to the Weyr alive.
Again this behavior may land you both in hot water with your wingleader, especially if Seith thinks one of his wingmates might be in trouble and breaks formation when he should not. For all the trouble this may cause, Seith's almost unnerving ability to dodge danger will most likely see you both through and result in a happy ending for all involved, though you may have to fly some extra sweeps or spend some time breaking up firestone before you get to that happy ending. Lectures about recklessness probably won't be uncommon and you may find yourself struggling to explain to Seith why it is you both have to be more careful. Seith may prove to be especially good at sweeps, with an uncanny knack for picking up the first glimmer of Thread before the wings have the opportunity to assemble or spotting the start of a burrow.
