Search Committee Requirements

Before a person volunteers to become an Search Committee member, we ask that they read and consider the following requirements to ensure that we have a fun and productive cycle.

• You need to be an active member of Ista Weyr. Members of the Ista Search Committee need to be active at Ista so that they can roleplay with the candidates. This means that you should be a regular member of the Ista knot with your character actively living and roleplaying publicly at Ista. Characters with visitor status are not eligible. Posted Crafters are eligible if they have made regular active contributions to the weyr. Characters currently either assigned to another area or on an extended visit to another area are not eligible. If you have not actively roleplayed publicly at the Ista in the past month (and have not been away on a vacation or other absence) then you are not eligible.

• You cannot have a character applying for Search unless you are applying as Stand Only. We do give stand only applicants the option to switch to being a regular candidate but this option is not available to someone who is or was on search committee for this cycle. If you violate this rule you will be disqualified from being on search committee for future cycles.

• You need to be able to maintain confidentiality. If you know that you will have difficulty in keeping search information private then please excuse yourself from joining the search committee. There are many other ways to contribute to search without putting yourself and the weyr in a difficult situation. Confidentiality continues to apply even after the hatching; what happens in SC meetings cannot go outside that meeting. Any and all questions that may require you to reveal SC knowledge must be relayed to the Weyrleaders (ie, why didn't I impress, etc). If it becomes known that you have broken the confidentiality of search committee (even inadvertently and without intent) you may be asked to leave the search committee.

• You need to have a positive attitude. Please don't join search committee if you have already decided that search is a negative experience or if you have trouble finding reasons to impress candidates in general.

• You should have time to roleplay with the candidates. Committee members are encouraged to roleplay with each candidate. Roleplaying may be done by any of a member's alts and members are trusted to police themselves in this matter. Common sense dictates that there is no reason for you to be on the committee if you are not going to be able to get to know the candidates.

• You need to be able to treat other players with respect and courtesy. The Search Committee is a team whose goal it is to better the Weyr through the decisions it makes. No personal agendas are permitted and those who are disrespectful or rude in any way during meetings or through the email list will be removed. In addition, SC represents Ista to those who would enquire about search, those applying, and the rest of the game. It is important that SC members behave with that thought in mind.
