Search Cycle Walk-Through: Ista's Search Goals

So, after reading all this, and since most people who apply will want to impress, what is Ista really looking for? There are three main aspects we're hoping to see, in no particular order:

Reliability of access and good use of time spent online. This doesn't mean fifteen hours a week online is a shoo-in to impress; nor that someone with three hours won't ever be able to do so. What mostly matters is how you spend what time you have: if it's idling for those fifteen hours, that's not so great. If it's RPing those three hours you do have, that'll mean more. Why it means more is that one of the absolutely most basic reasons Weyrs impress riders is to keep the Weyr an active and vital place to roleplay. If an applicant's access isn't too reliable--they don't seem to be able to balance commitments and appear to be likely to burn out in only a few months, or will flunk out of school from too much time online and lose access--it's not a very positive thing, and it's something Ista has to consider, no matter how stellar a player's RP may be.

Enrichment of roleplay This can come across in as many ways as there are individual players and talents. It might be, for one person, the ability to initiate and bring others into RP. For another, perhaps a particularly well-developed and vivid character whose player can inject into the RP a sense of how that char's history and personality color their actions or decisions. For yet another, perhaps it's the interest in energetically seeking out and enthusiastically participating in whatever RP he encounters. And perhaps another person enjoys thinking up and organizing events and plots for other people. Proactive, thoughtful roleplay with depth encompasses many of the skills we look for--and, at all times, working with others' roleplay and characters is important to participating in the community we offer.

Contributing to the well-being of the Weyr In other words, someone who is not only interested in playing a rider at Ista, but also in making Ista a better place to play. Many people would like to see improvements made in their area, but it is far less common to find players willing to contribute to achieving these goals. You don't have to be a rider or an admin to help the area thrive; no matter your current position, your contributions can make Ista a vital, exciting, ever-improving place to play.
